Western Downs Regional Council invite residents to warm up their voices at a community workshop this coming weekend before joining a national choral initiative in July.

Help is on its Way calls on local singers, singing groups and choirs to come together to perform a powerful anthem as way of raising awareness around mental health, particularly for our boys and men.

Council are hosting a workshop this Saturday with well-known singer-songwriter and choir conductor, Emma Dean and are encouraging the participating singers to come along for a few practice runs so that they can put on the show of their life for the main event.

The concert is a culmination of several months of preparation and is a sequel to the 2017 Queensland Music Festival (QMF) project where choirs united to perform the hit song ‘You’re the Voice’ with special guest John Farnham, as a way of drawing attention to domestic violence.

The huge success of this event led to Council partnering with QMF to include Chinchilla on the Queensland tour.

Help is on its Way is already very well supported across the region with 170 school choirs, community singing groups and soloists registering to participate.

Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said how great it is to see our communities backing such a worthwhile project.

“I’m excited that Chinchilla will be a part of the tour and given the opportunity to build awareness around mental health within the Western Downs,” she said.

“I look forward to seeing the community come together and deliver a performance as one united voice which will no doubt hold a place in our hearts for a long time.”

The workshop will be held on Saturday 29 June from 10am to 2pm at the Chinchilla Cultural Centre.

The Chinchilla Cultural Centre will also be the venue for the choral event in Chinchilla on Wednesday 17 July before the main concert in Brisbane on 27 July.

The Brisbane concert will be led by the renowned Dr Jonathon Welch AM with special guest and two-time ARIA Hall of Fame inductee, Glenn Shorrock who will also be joined by Busby Marou, The McClymonts and Travis Collins.
