Works for Queensland means works for Central Highlands

Central Highlands Regional Council endorsed twelve projects to be completed with its $2.5million share of the state government’s 2019-21 Works for Queensland (W4Q) funding program.

Mayor Kerry Hayes said the projects focussing mainly on upgrades to sport and recreational facilities will benefit people across the region and create an estimated 88 jobs.

‘Our 2019-21 projects have a strong focus on upgrading sports and lifestyle facilities across the region,’ Mayor Hayes said.

‘This decision was made in line with our Game Plan strategy to grow and support opportunities for sports and recreation.

‘Around $2.275 million of the grant will be spent across Blackwater, Emerald, Capella, Rolleston and Springsure facilities.

‘Improvements include improved lighting to encourage training at cooler hours in our summer, upgrades to amenities and general maintenance as required.

‘The remaining $225,000 will be used to upgrade the kitchen at Dingo Hall, install an electronic community noticeboard at Comet and a shade cover at the Rubyvale playground, and concrete an area at the Emerald Saleyards to allow all-weather access for hay feeding.’

Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said Works for Queensland had a great track record of kickstarting jobs and investment in the Central Highlands.

“The Palaszczuk Government will continue to work with Central Highlands Regional Council to deliver new infrastructure that supports employment in the local community,” he said.

The Central Highlands’ 2019-21 Works for Queensland funded projects are as follows:

·         An upgrade to the Dingo Hall kitchen worth $60,000

·         Replacement of sports field irrigation in Springsure worth $220,000

·         Upgrades to lighting at McIndoe Park in Emerald – $700,000

·         Replacement of lighting at Bridgeman Park in Capella – $90,000

·         Installation of lighting and resurfacing of the netball courts at Hunter Street complex in Blackwater – $350,000

·         Installation of an electronic community noticeboard in Comet to improve school zone safety and provide notices – $35,000

·         Construction of a storage shed at the sportsground in Rolleston – $40,000

·         Install a ceiling and air-conditioning at the campdraft grounds in Rolleston – $80,000

·         Installation of shade sails at Rubyvale flats playground – $50,000

·         Upgrade to lighting and electrical infrastructure including speakers and upgrades to amenities at the showgrounds in Emerald – $245,000

·         Construction of an amenities building at the rugby league fields in Bluff – $550,000

·         Concreting of two delivery lanes at the Emerald Saleyards – $80,000

The $600 million Works for Queensland (W4Q) program is designed to support Local Governments outside of South East Queensland to undertake job-creating maintenance and minor infrastructure works.
