Liverpool City Council is exploring options for multi-storey car parks at two sites in the CBD.
Collimore Park will be investigated as one possible location while a block at the southern end of Bathurst Street is the other area under consideration.
Earlier this month Council opened up 106 new parking spaces at Woodward Park, with a further 120 to be delivered by the end of the year. Council has also approved additional car parking at 68 Speed Street in the CBD, which provides for a further 100 spaces.
The sites at Collimore Park and Bathurst Street could provide parking for several hundred cars.
“Council recognises there is increasing demand for parking in Liverpool,” said Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller. “And that demand is only going to increase as the city continues to grow and thrive as Sydney’s third CBD.
“Improving transport underpins our vision for Liverpool in the future and we know car parking is a key piece of the puzzle.
“These sites both allow quick, easy access for commuters to the CBD and we hope they will prove ideal locations for multi-storey car parks.”
At Wednesday’s meeting, Council voted to submit a proposal to the Department of Planning and Environment to rezone Collimore Park for use as a multi-storey car park.
If approved, plans will be prepared for public exhibition and consultation.
A report on the suitability of the Bathurst Street site will be provided to Council by November 2019.
