Balonne Shire Council has launched a new Tourism Events grant program to ensure our region captures visitors travelling around Outback Queensland.

The Tourism Events Grant Program provides a tiered range of grants to encourage, engage and support event organisers and organisations to make a positive and ongoing contribution to the Shire.

Mayor Richard Marsh said Council recognised the vital role tourism events played in growing the economy and adding to the vibrancy of the Shire and its towns.

“These grants will assist organisers to develop, promote, execute and sustain long-term tourism events,” he said.

“Priority will be given to events that increase visitation to the Shire, generate positive media coverage and stimulate the local economy.

“The funding is available across three categories – Regional Events (up to $2000), Destination Events (up to $3000) and Major Events (up to $6000) – for pre-existing Shire events.

“In addition, we will also offer one-off funding of up to $2000 for the development of new tourism events.”

Applications for Round 1 open 1 July.
