Cat and dog lifetime registration fees will increase from 1 July 2019. There are also new requirements if you are selling or giving away your cat or dog.

From 1 July 2019, the Companion Animal Registration Fees will change.  Annual permits will be required for undesexed cats and dangerous/restricted dogs.

The new fee structure set down by the State Government is as follows:

$210 for an entire cat or dog (that is, not desexed) $58 for desexed dog or cat (sterilisation certificate required) $25 for eligible pensioners, only if the dog or cat is desexed (pension card and sterilisation certificate required) $58 for an animal that is not desexed and kept by a recognised breeder for breeding purposes (Current RNSWCC membership, pedigree certificate and letter stating the animal will be kept for breeding purposes is required) $29 for a desexed animal purchased from a Council pound, animal shelter, or rehoming organisation with a Clause 16(d) after 30/10/15 (adoption paperwork and sterilisation certificate required) A late fee of $16 is also applicable if the registration fee has not been paid 28 days after the date on which the companion animal was required to be registered.

Also, if you are selling or giving away your cat or dog, any advertisements must include a microchip number, breeder identification number or a rehoming organisation number. It does not matter how old the animal is, where you are advertising, whether or not you are a professional breeder or your animal has had a one off litter or whether the animal has been born yet or not - you must include one of the above numbers in the advertisement. To find out more about the changes, please visit the Department of Primary Industries website.
