City of Armadale 1 Jul 2019

The City of Armadale Mayor was today pleased to announce the appointment of their new Chief Executive Officer who will commence later in the year, Ms Joanne Abbiss.

Ms Abbiss is currently Chief Executive Officer of the City of Kwinana, and responsible for leading the economic development of the State’s premier industrial area that generates a combined annual output of over $15 billion per annum to Australia’s economy.

Winner of the 2015 Telstra WA Business Women’s Government and Academia Award, Joanne also received international recognition at the United Nations backed Liveable Communities Awards in 2011 for excellence in integrated strategic planning.

Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said Ms Abbiss was chosen after an extensive and extremely competitive selection process conducted by Lester Blades on behalf of the City.

“Ms Abbiss is an outstanding choice, bringing a wealth of local government experience that includes a background of administrative, contract, property and planning law that relates to local government.

“Having previously worked at the neighbouring Serpentine Jarrahdale Shire, a member of the National Growth Areas Alliance, Ms Abbiss is across the challenges and opportunities faced by Armadale as one of the fastest growing councils in Western Australia.

“This appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Armadale and Council. The Executive Team is looking forward to working with Joanne to continue to deliver on the City’s commitments to the community, as a significant growth area and Strategic Metropolitan Centre”, said Mayor Zelones.
