A family-friendly skate park will be created in Warradale Park, the City of Wanneroo has outlined in its 2019/20 budget.

The Warradale Skate Park, which is currently in the design phase and will take the shape of a snake to represent its proximity to Snake Lake, has been costed at $600,000 for the 2019/20 financial year, according to the City of Wanneroo’s newly-adopted budget.

The facility will feature skate ramps, BMX tracks, pedestrian walkways, seating for spectators and lots of green spaces to make the recreation hub a joy to use for people of all ages.

City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said plans for the new skate park, which received an overwhelmingly positive response from local residents, was a key part of the City’s broader vision regarding local recreational amenities.

“The City of Wanneroo is focused on delivering high-quality, long-term investments to build vibrant, connected communities,” Mayor Roberts said.

“The Warradale Skate Park will be a meeting place for local families and youth, and in turn will provide a welcoming and inclusive space for the community to come together, socialise and prosper.”

During a community consultation period that took place from January to March this year, residents praised a number of the concept park design’s features, including its suitability for all ages, layout, barbecue facilities, shelter and seating.

“I like that it will be suitable for both skating and bikes,” a local resident said. “This will entice older children/teens to use it.”

“The facility will save residents having to travel to other locations such as Scarborough to use other skate parks,” another said.

Other survey respondents said it was “good to see the City investing in a Landsdale facility” and the new skate park would allow “kids to be out and physically active”.

Construction on the Warradale Skate Park is expected to start in December 2019, with June 2020 earmarked as the completion date.
