Special NAIDOC Week author talk with James Wilson-Miller

Author James Wilson-Miller will be telling his family history and those of the Wonnarua people, focusing on women’s lived experience as a mirror of Australian Indigenous history this NAIDOC Week 2019.   James Wilson-Miller is a Koori author and historian who is from the Wonnarua nation and a member of the Gringai clan.

In 1985, James published the book ‘Koori: A Will to Win’: a book recognised by many, as the first full Black History of an Australian Indigenous family.   James was the Section Head and Curator of Koori History and Culture at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney and holds a Centenary of Federation Medal for contributions to Aboriginal issues.

Cessnock City Council’s, Library Services Co-ordinator, Rose-marie Walters encouraged the community to attend.   “This is an important talk as James illuminates the past and traces the story of the Wonnarua people through the last 200 years of his family history.”
