Fairfield City Open Libraries has won the NSW Local Government Excellence Award in the Service Delivery category from Local Government Professionals Australia, NSW.

The win is further proof that Fairfield City Council delivers cutting edge library services to residents, offering something for everyone.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said Open Libraries offers a massive range of events, fun activities, entertainment and resources for all members of the family, whether aged 0 or 100.

“I’m proud of our Council winning this award but even prouder of the fantastic service the libraries provide every day for our residents and businesses,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Our library serves an important role for our community, helping young people learn and study for a bright future, and helping small local businesses to thrive, as well as providing free fun activities for all ages.

“Fairfield City Open Libraries has revolutionised our library service for the community. Residents have responded with an increase of 18.5% attendance across all library branches and by a whopping 49% at our main branch, Whitlam Library Cabramatta in just a few short years.”

Recent initiatives to benefit the community have included:

• mobile customer service

• extended opening hours to midnight on peak days

• construction of The Workary, a dedicated space to support start-ups, co-workers and local small business

• Studio 2166 for free high quality business and community video and audio production

• lab.LX for virtual reality production and cutting edge audio visual technology

• increased multilingual support

• an explosion in borrowing range with new cloud library services.

“I encourage all residents and people who work in Fairfield City to join the library and chat to the friendly staff on what your library can offer you, whether you want to be entertained, undertake personal growth, get business support or to study. It’s free to join our libraries,” Mayor Carbone said.
