Koondrook Wharf's international praise

The Koondrook Wharf has received international recognition, taking out the Urban Planning/Landscape Architecture title in the 2019 Chicago Athenaeum/European Design for Architecture Art and Urban Design Studies Awards.

The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design announced award winners last month, with the $2 million wharf project recognised alongside building and public spaces located throughout the globe.

Project architects, Terroir will be presented with the award during a ceremony in Athens, Greece in September.

“The Koondrook Wharf project continues to put the Gannawarra on the map nationally and globally,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said. 

“This is the fourth award the project has received, after claiming three categories in the Victorian Architecture Awards. The project was also shortlisted in the 2018 World Architecture Festival Awards.”

Opened in 2016, the Koondrook Wharf celebrates the town’s links to the Murray River and the paddle steamer industry. 

“The Koondrook Wharf has been embraced by the community, becoming a popular venue to moor vessels and host wedding ceremonies,” Mayor Learmonth said. 

“With work to start on the Koondrook Nature Based Tourism Hub this financial year and Stage 3 of the Koondrook CBD Redevelopment soon to begin, the popularity of the Koondrook Wharf will continue to grow.

“Council congratulates Terroir on the accolade, which is a credit to all who were involved in the project.”
