Our Vacancy

Mareeba Shire Council has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Health Officer (EHO) to provide support in maintaining high standards of public and environmental health across the Shire.

Reporting to the Supervisor Health and Local Laws the successful candidate will conduct inspections to assess the compliance of registered premises with the Food Act and other legislative requirements, assist with the preparation of documentation and instituting legal proceedings as directed and provide expert advice about public and environmental health matters and design. The incumbent will also undertake education and promotion activities to assist food proprietors and community groups on matters relating to environmental health.

The successful applicant will have a high level of interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, be tertiary qualified in Environmental Health or equivalent, have demonstrated experience in applying relevant legislation and can operate under limited supervision but work collaboratively as part of a team. Previous relevant experience in local government is essential.

It is anticipated the successful candidate may be asked to work up to 3 days per week, depending on requirements. The position will provide some flexibility regarding the working hours which can be further discussed throughout the process.
