One of Mount Isa's most loved citizens Kathy Swift recently celebrated her 90th birthday surrounded by friends and family. Four generations of Kathy's family were on hand to help her blow out the candles on her birthday cake. Kathy is renowned for four decades of fundraising for leukaemia sufferers and can often be seen outside of Coles with sister Joyce Neilsen raising money for the cause. Kathy's actual birthday was April 23 which she celebrated in Buderim on the Sunshine Coast with 80 friends. However she celebrated the auspicious occasion again with another 50 people in Mount Isa on her return home. Kathy was born in Boulia and after living in Camooweal moved to Mount Isa aged 10. She and late husband George had four children and Kathy received the OAM for her work raising hundreds of thousand dollars as well as Rotary's highest honour the Paul Harris Fellowship. She was also featured on ABC's Andrew Denton show.
