Naidoc March 2019

Tamworth Regional Council will once again join the nation-wide conversation to celebrate NAIDOC Week and in doing so has partnered with the Tamworth NAIDOC Committee to host a series of community events that will be held from Sunday 7 to Sunday 14 July 2019.

This year’s NAIDOC Week theme is Voice, Treaty, Truth – three key elements to the reforms set out in the Uluru Statement from the Heart that represent the unified position of First Nations Australia. The Indigenous voice of Australia is over 65,000 years, with this year’s NAIDOC theme signifying that it is important this voice, knowledge and culture be heard.

Tamworth Regional Mayor, Col Murray said “NAIDOC week is a time to show our respect to the rich cultural knowledge that has been passed down by Indigenous people not just across the Tamworth region, but the wider Australian community. It is a time to embrace the creation stories and listen to their truth.”

“We are excited to be working together with the NAIDOC Committee to host a series of fantastic, new and annual events to celebrate Australia’s culture, learn stories from our past and work together for a unified future.”

Sunday 7 to Sunday 14 July will see the invitation extended to the Tamworth community to walk together in a movement of the Australian people for a better future through the following series of events:
