Funding to deliver Big Project upgrades

Local sporting clubs are the big winners after Council received two grants totaling $556,250 through the SA Government’s Grassroots Football, Cricket and Netball Facility Program.

At Nuriootpa Centennial Park, two new unisex change rooms will be constructed and two existing change rooms will be redeveloped to unisex standards.

The project is valued at $890,000, comprised of $350,000 in grant funding, a $410,000 Council contribution and club commitments of $130,000.

Meanwhile, Tanunda Oval will benefit from the installation of sporting flood lights through grant funding of $206,250 and a joint Council contribution of $206,250, valuing the project at a total of $412,500.

The upgrades will bring these facilities up to modern standards and provide the capacity to host additional high profile events, and in the case of Tanunda Oval, the potential for night events.

However, more importantly the upgrades will encourage greater participation in local sport and boost the health, wellbeing and social engagement of our community.

Mayor Bim Lange is extremely pleased that this funding will assist in delivering much anticipated community facilities as part of The Big Project.

“We know our recreation facilities are facing upward pressure so this funding comes at the right time to support expanded competition and more participation, especially with the growth of women’s and junior sport,” Mayor Lange said.

“We have worked closely with SACA and SANFL to ensure our facilities and ovals meet contemporary standards, this reinforces our commitment to establishing the Barossa as a premier regional sports event tourism destination.

We’re also grateful to local sporting clubs who are at the heart of our community and support our vision for The Big Project.”

Both the Nuriootpa Centennial Park change room facilities and Tanunda Oval lighting installation are expected to be delivered during 2019 and 2020.
