Celebrating NAIDOC Week
Shire of Capel 3 Jul 2019

NAIDOC celebrations are held around Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year, We’re proud to have celebrated and held our first NAIDOC Week event.

The theme for this year is Voice. Treaty. Truth and all are invited to join in the movement of the Australian people for a better future

Voice. Treaty. Truth. were three key elements to the reforms set out in the Uluru Statement from the Heart. These reforms represent the unified position of First Nations Australians.

At the event, we celebrated the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with Australians from all walks of life.

Wadandi Elder Sandra Hill presented the Welcome to Country and the Binjareb Middars Cultural dance troupe provided Dance workshops and performances throughout the day.

The community took part in cultural activities, sand art projects, bushfood tastings and some Yonga (Kangaroo) Stew for lunch.

Special thanks to the Undalup Association and Binjareb Middars, and to all who took part in the celebration.
