Mount Isa-born comedian Steph Tisdell has promoted Mount Isa on an episode this week of top Channel 10 show The Project. Putting the video on their Facebook page, The Project said Tisdell was from outback Queensland which was "the place that gave Labor a right royal whack in the recent election". So The Project sent her along Mount Isa "to help shed some light on the disparity between the city and country". Tisdell introduces the six minute segment by saying she spent the first six years of her life here. "Mount Isa is literally built around its copper and zinc mines which is smack bang in the middle of town and one in ten Mount Isans work there," Tisdell told the viewers. She then interviewed Kylie Rixon from Robbie Katter's office asking her what big city people needed to know about Mount Isa. "We've got a voice and when we put it together that's quite loud," Ms Rixon told Tisdell. Tisdell then noted that the recent federal election was Labor's worst performance north of Brisbane in 70 years. "Funny how folks turn nasty when outsiders whack industries that keep food on their tables," she said. She interviewed Mayor Joyce McCulloch who said the election result "had to happen" to the disparity between city and country. "It showed how strong the resource sector is in Queensland and how necessary it is," Cr McCulloch told Tisdell. Tisdell also took a tour down Hard Times mine and the Underground Hospital before heading to Healy State School where the kids asked her is she was a "chameleon". She then chats with singer Megan Samardin at Lake Moondarra, about the difficulties of living remotely. "We made do and if we can't find a way, we'll make it happen," Ms Samardin said. Expensive flights, the truckie wave and the difficulties of using Tinder in Mount Isa also got a mention but watch it for yourself.
