Mildura is fast developing a reputation as a major host city for some of the biggest State and national baseball events in the country.
Following hot on the heels of last month’s successful Australian Intermediate League Championships (AILC), Mildura is set to host the 2019 Victorian U18 State Winter Championships this weekend.
To be played at the Aerodrome Ovals Sporting Complex over two days this Saturday and Sunday, the U18 State Winter Championships will see more than 100 players travel to our region to compete in the event.
It will also be a chance for Sunraysia’s representative team to test its skills against players from across the State.
Councillor for Economic Development and Tourism Mark Eckel welcomed the addition of yet another major baseball event in the Sunraysia region.
“We’re pleased to be able to work with Baseball Victoria and the Sunraysia Baseball Association to bring this prestigious event to our city this weekend,” Cr Eckel said.
“It’s exciting to see over the past 12 months the increasing interest in our region from both Baseball Australia and Baseball Victoria, which is not only great for the sport, but also provides a welcome boost to our economy.
“These events introduce our municipality to a whole host of visitors who may be exploring our region for the first time, which studies have shown can result in about 25 per cent coming back for another tourism experience.
“I look forward to meeting competitors and their supporters and family this weekend and encourage them to explore our beautiful region during their stay.”
In addition the last month’s AILC and this weekend’s Victorian U18 State Winter Championships, Mildura last year hosted the U12 and U14 State Winter Championships.
