Council celebrates NAIDOC Week 2019

Published on 04 July 2019

Baw Baw Shire Council is celebrating NAIDOC Week with a flag raising ceremony on Monday 8 July at 11.00am at the Drouin Memorial Park. This will be followed by a morning tea and free garden activities for the whole community.

NAIDOC Week will run from 7-14 July and it celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is also an opportunity to recognise the contributions that Indigenous Australians make to our country and society.

This year’s theme is Voice. Treaty. Truth. Let’s work together for a shared future. The words Voice, Treaty and Truth are in reference to the three key elements in the reforms set out in the 2017 Uluru Statement from the Heart, which represent the unified position of First Nations Australians.
