Talented vocalists to wow crowds at this year’s Opera at Jimbour

Western Downs Regional Council, Queensland Music Festival and Opera Queensland are delighted to bring the biennial live music spectacular, Opera at Jimbour, to the Jimbour Plains on Saturday 27th July.

Opera at Jimbour returns with an outstanding classical performance, boasting day-long entertainment along with tempting foods, plenty of wine and fun for music lovers.

Mayor Paul McVeigh says that the locals are excited to see what’s on offer at this year’s festival and that with the ever-growing popularity of the event, Council is looking towards positive changes for the future.

“Opera at Jimbour has gotten bigger and bigger over the last 16 years,” he said.

“Due to this, Queensland Music Festival along with Western Downs Regional Council have decided to introduce a ticketing system to the Opera to ensure that the quality of the festival remains at a high-standard.

“Now Opera at Jimbour has a secured future, meaning visitors can continue to enjoy all the event has to offer and we can enhance the festival experience even more in the years to come.

“It’s great to see the community come together in celebration of talented classical music performers and with so much potential, I can’t wait to see where this event goes next.”

Located at the historic Jimbour Homestead, visitors are invited to enjoy the variety of food and drink available or bring along a picnic to share with friends.

A long line-up of market stalls will also be onsite with a variety of artisan products, hand crafted goods and plenty of local produce available to patrons.

One of the big changes this year is the addition of brand-new events, including Happy Hour at the Hangar and Jimbour Garden Picnic which are sure to be a huge hit with the crowd.

These new additions to the festival will provide a different experience for patrons, with late night live music from local bands promising to keep travellers and campers entertained from the second they arrive to the moment they leave.

In celebration of Queensland Music Festival’s 20th year, the 2019 event will deliver a spectacular new Gala program of opera favourites from some of Australia’s biggest stars including internationally celebrated tenor Simon Kim, soprano Sarah Crane, mezzo soprano Hayley Sugars, baritone Shaun Brown and more.

The line-up of talented artists will surely surprise and delight both aficionados as well as those new to the artform, or those just looking for a great day out with a nice glass of bubbles.

The event also welcomes renowned conductor Vanessa Scammell as well as Queensland opera favourite Jason Barry-Smith as the event’s MC and director, and the celebrated Queensland Youth Orchestra.

Artistic director of the Queensland Music Festival Katie Noonan is impressed by the substantial growth of the event and how Opera at Jimbour continuously delivers a performance guaranteed to impress.
