Thirteen volunteers assisted both organisations by performing a number of tasks around their premises including sanding and varnishing bar stools, clearing leaves, varnishing a cubby house and removing unwanted items into rubbish collection.
The volunteering work was the latest action in the City’s Corporate Volunteering Program, which is an initiative from the City’s Volunteering Strategy 2016 – 2022.
City of Rockingham Chief Executive Officer Michael Parker said corporate volunteering played an important role in strengthening community groups across the City.
“The City’s Corporate Volunteering Program has assisted a number of organisations since 2017 and once again we were delighted to assist two worthy community groups,” Mr Parker said.
“Not only does corporate volunteering help build relationships between City staff, it also helps local organisations improve their own operations.
“By having volunteers take care of the small, yet time consuming tasks, community groups can focus on the big picture and better service the needs of their members and clients.”
The work done at both the Rockingham Navy Club and Marilla Community Centre is the second of three corporate volunteering events the City will participate in during 2019.
The City’s third and final Corporate Volunteering Program event for 2019 will be held in October.
The Rockingham Navy Club and Marilla Community Centre are both located on Point Peron Road.
