Our Vacancy
Council is seeking a multiskilled, motivated individual to join our facilities team in the position of Labourer Facilities (Handyperson). The successful incumbent will provide high level labouring skills in relation to building maintenance activities for Council owned buildings, facilities and other structures within the Mareeba Shire. This will include but is not limited to tasks relating to tiling, painting, plastering, joinery, floor coverings, flat-pack assembly, window and door locks, non-structural strip-outs and renovations to Council’s buildings and facilities.
The position is required to assist with after-hours work and be part of an on-call support roster for the facilities section. It calls for physically demanding work to be undertaken in a hot and humid climate on a day to day basis. It is the responsibility of the incumbent to ensure they are and remain physically fit and able to efficiently and consistently undertake these tasks. Council may require applicants to undergo a full physical pre-employment medical examination which includes drug and alcohol testing. The incumbent is also required to maintain their weight at or below the Safe Working Load (SWL) for the machinery and equipment the position is required to use or operate.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in a variety of tasks in relation to building maintenance and construction, sound knowledge of related best practice procedures and techniques and the ability to work with limited supervision. The incumbent will possess a current driver’s licence, Construction White Card and the willingness and ability to undertake manual handling and labouring tasks for extended periods in sometimes hot and humid conditions.
