Council Works – Week ending 05 July 2019

“For the week ending 05 July, the following key works were completed by Council staff”, noted Council’s Mayor, Cr. Ray Thompson.

“Within the urban Lithgow area last week, Council completed the required storm water infrastructure repairs at Knight Street, Lithgow,” said Mayor Thompson. “Outside of this work though, after a long wait Council has received a number of asphalt deliveries allowing many road repairs to be completed locally,” said Mayor Thompson. “Bells Road, Railway Parade and Bent Street had major repairs completed while Enfield Avenue, Lockyer Street, Stewart Street, Andrew Street, Higgins Street and Paige Street have had minor improvements effected.”

“In the last week Council’s rural works staff have continued their focus on the maintenance of sealed and unsealed roads,” noted Mayor Thompson. “This week, staff have completed grading works on Mill Creek Road, Benbo Road, Blackheath Creek Road, Clarke Simpson Road, McManus Road and Palmers Oakey Road. Next on Council’s priority list for maintenance is Cuthill Road and all roads within the Hartley area commencing with Lawsons Long Alley. Alongside this maintenance, bitumen patching has occurred in Portland, Wallerawang, Cullen Bullen, Pipers Flat and Kanimbla. Lastly, staff have commenced their first capital project with preparation works commencing on Hazelgrove Road prior to the application of seal in the near future.”

“Over the last month or two, Council staff have been receiving a significant volume of complaints regarding the condition of the temporary repairs after NBN works in Main Street, Lithgow”, said Mayor Thompson. “Council and its staff do sympathise with the community and acknowledge the disruption caused by the work.”

“However, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Concrete replacements have been completed and the replacement of the pavers is ongoing, all at the cost of NBNCo and their contractor. In time, all assets disrupted as a result of this project will be restored to their pre-work condition.”

“I’d like to remind the community though that while Council will respond to any immediate hazard on Main Street which has arisen as a result of the NBN works, residents are encouraged to call NBNCo or Visionstream directly.
