The next step in the transformation of Fairfield Showground has begun today with construction beginning on a new multipurpose amenities building.

The $5.1 million building is being jointly funded by the local, state and federal governments as part of the Western Sydney City Deal’s Western Parkland City Liveability Program.

NSW Minister for Western Sydney Stuart Ayres, Member for Lindsay Melissa McIntosh, representing Federal Minister for Population, Cities and Urban Infrastructure Alan Tudge, Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone and Fairfield councillors joined together to turn the first sod on the project.

The Liveability Program provided Council with funding towards the multipurpose amenities building, a new playground at Deerbush Park for children of all abilities and an upgrade to the Moorefield Grandstand – all as part of the Fairfield Showground redevelopment. These projects enhance Fairfield Showground as a destination for the people of Fairfield City and Western Sydney.

The multipurpose amenities building will feature a community space, kitchen/canteen, two large change rooms that can be divided into four, adjoining massage and doctors’ rooms, restrooms, match official change rooms and bathrooms, gym/training room, office space, first aid facility and storage.

“This investment in Fairfield Showground will further enrich the daily lifestyle of locals. Western Sydney is already an incredible place to live and this will help build more of what locals love about it,” Mr Ayres said.

“The Liveability Program is delivering $170 million of improvements in sports fields, parks, cultural centres making Western Sydney even more desirable to call home.”

“The Western Sydney City Deal is important for local jobs and investment. The Western Parkland will grow both nationally and internationally and it is crucial that our quality of life is maintained,” Ms McIntosh said.

“This will be more than just an ordinary amenities building. It will be flexible to provide for community, cultural and large sporting events at the new Fairfield Showground,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Its unique design will allow communities to come together and participate, whether it’s a festival, cultural celebration or sports event. The building will service the new AFL, cricket and festival arena; and the synthetic and grassed football fields.

“Very soon, thousands of sportspeople and festival goers of all ages will take advantage of the wonderful new playing surfaces and performance spaces each weekend, and it is important that they have the amenities to support them.

“This is a great example of how different levels of government can work together in partnership to provide a regional facility for the whole community to share and enjoy.”

The amenities building is scheduled to be completed in late autumn 2020.
