Sporting groups considering improvements to change rooms, making alterations to canteens or other facility improvements should consider applying for Wollongong City Council’s new Sports Facilities Grant program.
Funding from $5,000 to $100,000 is on offer to help sporting groups attract and retain more players in their sport and to broaden their offer to all people in the community.
“We have more than 67 sports fields throughout the city and these offer fun, games and social opportunities to tens of thousands of sportspeople of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels,” said Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM.
“We want to encourage more people, and in particular girls and women, to take part in a sport or sporting activity. And while we know sporting clubs and associations play an integral part in keeping people active, healthy and socially connected, we understand there are many challenges for local sporting groups.
“The purpose of the new Sports Facilities Grant program is to assist clubs and associations to providing suitable training and competition facilities, or even just improve the canteen so that it can help provide a much-needed additional funding source for clubs.”
The Sports Facilities Grant program aims to support local sporting groups by providing a funding opportunity for capital renewal and enhancement projects on sports grounds and facilities on Council-owned and managed land.
