The much-anticipated Help is on its Way concert will take place in Chinchilla next week, with singers from all over the Western Downs uniting their voices to raise awareness for mental health.
Western Downs Regional Council is hosting this free community concert and are inviting everyone to come along and support the local talent.
The concert features one of Australia’s very own music legends, Glenn Shorrock whose career spans more than 50 years.
Glenn had the honour of being inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame on two occasions, firstly as a member of Little River Band and again as a solo artist.
The evening will commence with a set by singer-songwriter Emma Dean before Glenn takes to the stage for a set of his own, with the finale inviting all the singers up on stage to accompany Glenn in singing the anthem Help is on its Way.
The initiative has attracted over 170 members in the Western Downs consisting of school choirs, community singing groups and soloists to participate in this unique event and now is your chance to come and see the culmination of the last few months of planning in a dynamic concert.
Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said she is looking forward to participating in the event and hopes to see the community turn up and support this worthwhile project.
“I’m excited that Chinchilla will be a part of the tour and given the opportunity to build awareness around mental health within the Western Downs,” she said.
“I look forward to seeing the community come together and watch our local singers perform as one voice which will no doubt hold a place in our hearts for a long time.”
Chinchilla resident Bonnie Gibson conducts both the Chinchilla Christian School Choir and Chinchilla Community Choir and has registered both groups to participate in the event.
“It is fantastic to see that this initiative is coming out to Chinchilla and giving our local singers the chance to get involved in something bigger than what they usually do,” she said.
“It is also a great experience for the singers to perform alongside renowned Australian artist Glenn Shorrock and be conducted by Emma Dean who has significant experience as a conductor.”
The event will be held at the Chinchilla Cultural Centre on Wednesday 17 July, doors opening at 5.30pm with the concert starting at 6.30pm.
The event is free to attend but registrations would be appreciated via Eventbrite.
Food and beverages will be available to purchase via the cash bar.
