This year Livingstone Shire will be hosting an array of events across the Shire with the aim of providing opportunities for the older members of the community to gain new experiences and learn about local services and support, whilst enjoying connections within their community.

With so many community events planned, Seniors Week 2019, will have an extended 15 day run from 14-29 August and will feature musical entertainment, outdoor activities and a number of social gatherings. The planned events to celebrate our local seniors will be held right across Livingstone Shire.

Community Development and Support and Senior Citizens Committee Chair Councillor Jan Kelly said there were 16 exciting events on offer as part of this year’s programme.

“Our launch will be a free morning tea to be held on Friday 16 August at Marlborough Hall. Bus transportation is being provided for those coastal residents who would like to attend, so interested seniors need to book early,” Cr Kelly said.

“We also have some other great activities happening this year, which includes a Poet’s Breakfast, Forest Bathing for Wellbeing, and also the opportunity to get out on Keppel Bay on a Whale Watching cruise.

“Seniors not only possess a wealth of history and knowledge, they also provide valuable community support through volunteering and fundraising. So it is really important that we acknowledge their involvement in making our Shire a better place to live.

“Livingstone Shire Council is a proud and proactive supporter of Seniors Week and each year Council works with the Seniors Week Committee to present a wide range of activities and events.

“I’d like to thank the State Government and COTA Australia for their support to help Council facilitate these wonderful events for our senior community.”
