5,000 randomly selected Eurobodalla addresses have received invitations from newDemocracy to be on the Eurobodalla Citizens’ Jury, and recipients are being urged to register their interest by 22 July. The Citizens’ Jury will answer the question: is Council spending your money on the right things? If not, what should change?
Eurobodalla Council has engaged newDemocracy to run this innovative style of community engagement to review Council’s range and level of services for the 2017-2021 delivery program.
newDemocracy Foundation Program Manager Georgina Inwood said the initial response from residents has been positive, but the Foundation is hoping to have even more local people register to go in the draw to be part of the 24-person jury.
“It is a great response at this point in the process and shows that Eurobodalla residents are keen be part of this new, outside-the-box, form of democracy,” Ms Inwood said.
“If you received the invitation but can’t make all the dates or aren’t interested in participating, please pass on the invitation to other people at the same address, especially to younger people. The Jury is open to anyone over 18 and we want to ensure we bring together a group of people that best reflect the demographics of the area.”
“If you received an invitation and are interested, please register by Friday 22 July via the details on your invitation. By registering your interest, you could be one of the final 24 people that will provide a set of recommendations to Council that will inform their delivery program and shape Eurobodalla’s future.
“If you did receive the invite but didn’t keep it handy, you can still register through our website. We have the full list of addresses so all you need to do is use the website and we’ll cross-check against list,” Ms Inwood added.
If you did not receive an invitation, you can still share your ideas with the jury via an open submission process. The newDemocracy Foundation will host information sessions in August to outline how you can do this and answer any questions about the process.
