The final section of boardwalk connecting the Tuross Head shared pathway will be officially opened by Mayor Lindsay Brown this Friday 15 July at 11am, and Tuross residents are invited to join the celebrations.

The new 160-metre timber boardwalk and concrete shared pathway along Nelson Parade was completed last month, finally joining the two existing pathway sections that finished at Lavender Point boat ramp and the Tuross Beach holiday park.

The raised boardwalk includes a viewing platform and was designed to protect the Norfolk Island pines growing around the headland.

Council’s Director of Infrastructure Warren Sharpe will MC the official opening of the boardwalk and says the project has been a great partnership. “This achievement has been made possible by the joint efforts of Eurobodalla Shire Council, NSW Roads and Maritime Services and the Tuross community,” he said, “and I’d especially like to thank the community representatives of the Tuross Progress Hall Sunset Committee, who guided the development of this project.”

The $265,000 shared pathway and boardwalk around Tuross Head’s famous coastline is 5.3 kilometres long and was funded by the proceeds of the sale of the Tuross Progress Hall, as well as a contribution from NSW Roads and Maritime Services.

Members of the community are invited to assemble at the new boardwalk on Nelson Parade at 11am to join Mayor Lindsay Brown, the Council construction team, representatives of the Tuross Head Progress Hall Sunset Committee, Tuross Head Progress Association, Tuross Lakes Preservation Group and Tuross Head Business Owners Association to officially open the boardwalk and pathway.

The ceremony at 11am will be followed by a stroll along the new pathway to One Tree Point for a sausage sizzle at midday.

Mayor Brown is enthusiastic about what the new walk brings to both the community and visitors to the region. “This fantastic project illustrates the good work that is being achieved through the community and Council working together to make the most of our beautiful region,” he said.
