On most days through winter you can find somewhere in Eurobodalla that’s at least six degrees warmer than Canberra. That’s the message Council’s tourism team will be selling with enticing winter deals in a new tourism campaign kicking off this week.

Tourism Executive Manager Cath Reilly said that while winter can be a quieter time for tourism businesses, it’s one of the busiest for Council’s tourism team. “This is the time of year we’re putting campaigns together and helping local tourism businesses with their marketing and business development,” she said.

“Council invited local tourism businesses to offer a winter deal and we will be promoting these deals to audiences in Canberra using our website www.eurobodalla.com.au as the ‘call to action’, and getting people to click through to tourism businesses that have offered a deal.

“Eurobodalla.com.au is Council’s 24-hour online visitor information service and has provided almost 160,000 visitor sessions this year,” Ms Reilly said. “The website delivers a dedicated tourism information service to customers an average of 430 times a day, 365 days a year, and at the same time promotes and connects local businesses to a huge pool of potential new customers.

“We have campaigns going all year round and this one will leverage digital marketing platforms including Facebook and Instagram to present these deals as a fun way to stay warm in winter,” said Ms Reilly. “We’ll also use Google AdWords, direct mail and e-newsletters, a media and public relations drive, and print brochures in the visitor information centres and at Council’s customer service centre in Moruya.”

Ms Reilly said tourism contributes more than $400 million to Eurobodalla’s economy every year and supports around 30 per cent of local jobs.

“It can be a tough industry to be in and at the moment it’s feeling the impact of a slow down around the Federal election and the recent weekends of stormy weather. I congratulate the tourism businesses that have offered holiday packages for this campaign, which will ultimately generate revenue for all businesses in Eurobodalla.”

Ms Reilly says everyone can help our economy by being a tourism ambassador. “You can tell your friends and family about these great winter deals by directing them to the website, engaging with Eurobodalla South Coast Facebook and Instagram pages, and using the hashtags #its warmer, #canberrascoast, and #eurobodalla when you share fantastic photos and experiences of our beautiful area in your own social media activity.”
