Eurobodalla’s NAIDOC Week celebrations are in good hands now and in the future, with the Eurobodalla Koori Employees Network and Eurobodalla Council formalising their NAIDOC Week partnership with a memorandum of understanding last week.

The two groups developed the MOU to guide a strong partnership approach to the organisation of local NAIDOC Week events and to acknowledge each party’s contributions and responsibilities for the next five years.

Council’s Director of Community, Arts and Recreation Kathy Arthur said the MOU is a first for Eurobodalla. “Council has been working with EKEN on NAIDOC Week events for a decade or more and the relationship is one we really value,” she said.

“The MOU formalises our longstanding partnership and provides a clear framework of responsibilities between each party. It maintains our strong relationship of cooperation in developing Eurobodalla’s NAIDOC Week program and signifies our continued future collaboration.

Eurobodalla Koori Employees Network Chairperson Dianah Riley is also pleased to have the partnership formalised.

“The MOU with Council ensures continued support for the community to recognise the importance of local Aboriginal culture through NAIDOC Week events, and, importantly, it helps us continue building our relationship with Council in the spirit of reconciliation,” Ms Riley said.

NAIDOC Week 2016 runs from 3-10 July and events are held across Australia for everyone to celebrate and learn about the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
