The families of young children with disabilities and the local health and early childhood professionals who work with them are invited to three training sessions in Moruya later this month.

Hosted by Eurobodalla Council's Embracing Participation program, the training will be provided by Sydney-based speech pathologist and author Dolly Bhargava.

Dolly has been working with children with disabilities in a variety of settings for almost 20 years and will offer two sessions for professionals and one for parents and families.

The first workshop, from 9am to 12pm on Friday 17 June, will teach health and early childhood professionals new methods for managing challenging behaviours in young children with disabilities. A second session on Friday from 1pm to 4pm discusses ways to improve the communication skills of children with disabilities. Each session for professionals will cost $10 per person.

The workshop for parents and families is free and will be held on Saturday 18 June from 9am to 12pm. It provides parents with strategies to support their children aged up to eight years to improve their social and communication skills.

Bookings for the three workshops are essential by calling Council’s Jessica Bourke on 02 4474 1338.

Council's Embracing Participation program supports children with a disability or developmental delay and their families and early childhood professionals to increase participation in local activities and mainstream services. Funded by NSW Family and Community Services, the program aims to strengthen the capacity of local services to be more inclusive. The small team also supports children and their families through transitions such as starting school and connecting with local community activities.

Embracing Participation has eight places for children with disability aged up to eight years. The program is currently at capacity but local families who need support are welcome to join the waiting list or get more information from Jess Bourke on 02 4474 1338.
