Narooma Library is getting a makeover. Work starts next month on the library’s first refurbishment since it opened in May 2003. The library will be repainted and recarpeted, with new furniture, shelves and a revamped kid’s area.
A pop up library will be set up in the foyer of the building while the library is closed for the three-week renovation.
Council’s Libraries Manager Linda Heald says the pop up library will keep the library’s regular readers happy during the renovation.
“We have hundreds of new books coming and they’ll be available in the pop up library when it opens on Tuesday 14 June. This is an exciting opportunity for our members to borrow brand new books and DVDs while the library gets a well-earned makeover,” she said.
“The library walls will be repainted in bright, fresh colours and we’ll have new carpet throughout.
“We’ve ordered new tables and seating to create several spaces in the library to relax and read, and the new shelves will be on wheels so we can move them to make space for events.
“We’re very excited about the new children’s area. It will be moved to the front of the library and feature bright new furniture, timber-look flooring, and a very special surprise handmade by Eurobodalla Woodies.”
“The library staff are thrilled with the plans and we can’t wait to share the revamped space with our customers,” Ms Heald said, “but in the meantime, we’ll see them all, and hopefully some new faces, at the pop-up library in the foyer.”
The painting and recarpeting are part of the Council’s scheduled maintenance of properties, while the new furniture, shelves and other features have been financed by a NSW State Library Grant of $55,000.
Narooma Library will close for renovations from 5pm on Thursday 9 June and reopen at 10am, Monday 27 June.
The library will not be open on Saturday 11, 18 and 25 June, and no computers or photocopier will be available for public use during the refurbishment.
There will be an official opening by the Mayor on Monday 4 July at 11.30am.
