National Families Week is held every year between 15 and 21 May and Council’s Children’s Services team is encouraging families across the Eurobodalla to get involved.
The 2016 theme is 'Stronger families, stronger communities' and Council is hosting a range of fun and free activities to shine a light on their services for children and to help families celebrate.
Council’s 3Bs playgroups are inviting families and their pre-school age children to come along and try playgroup on Monday 16 May at Rotary Park in Dalmeny, on Tuesday 17 May at the sports oval on Park Street Mogo, Wednesday 18 May at Kyla Park Tuross Head, on Thursday 19 May at the Wharf playground in Nelligen, and on Friday 20 May at Sunpatch Parade playground in Tomakin. 3Bs playgroups are held between 10am and 12pm, they’re free and you don’t need to book, just come along for fun play and healthy morning tea.
Storytime is held every week at Eurobodalla’s libraries and National Families Week is a good chance to drop in and experience the fun for yourself. Starting at 10.30am, storytime is at Batemans Bay library on Mondays, on Wednesdays at Moruya library and Thursdays at Narooma library.
Families interested in finding out about the National Disability insurance Scheme can come along to one of the free workshops and learn about the benefits of the scheme. The workshops are on Tuesday 17 May at 10am at Batemans Bay Library, Wednesday 18 May at 5pm at Dr McKay Centre in Moruya and Thursday at 5pm at Narooma Golf Club.
Kids already attending Council’s programs won’t miss out, with After School Care investigating their family histories and the local community, while Family Day Care and Embracing Participation families are having a special playgroup at Narooma Library on Wednesday 18 May.
Louise Hatton, Council’s Coordinator of Children and Family Services says National Families Week is a time to share in the enjoyment of family activities within the wider community. “We hope to meet lots of new little faces and their families at our National Families Week activities this year,” she said.
“Council is running high quality children’s services and we always welcome opportunities to show local families how they can benefit from our programs.”
National Families Week is run by Families Australia, a national not-for-profit organisation that strives to improve the wellbeing of all Australian families, on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Social Services. The Department of Social Services funds the activities of Council’s children’s services team.
