Eurobodalla’s not for profit organisations and community groups can apply now for grants to run 2016 NAIDOC Week activities.

Council has grants up to $500 available for activities that will promote partnership with the Aboriginal community or an Aboriginal organisation and encourage wider community participation in NAIDOC Week.

The National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week runs from 3-10 July this year and provides a special opportunity for Aboriginal people to promote their history and culture.

The theme for NAIDOC Week 2016 is ‘Songlines: the living narrative of our nation’. Songlines are intricate maps of land, sea and Country. They also describe travel and trade routes, the location of waterholes and the presence of food.

Mayor Lindsay Brown says Council is looking for activities that will provide opportunities to learn about and celebrate the culture and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people during NAIDOC Week.

“Past NAIDOC Week activities supported by Council have included storytelling, games, sporting events and NAIDOC-themed competitions, and art and craft activities,” said Clr Brown. “If your group has a similar activity or a new idea for NAIDOC Week then I encourage you to apply for these grants now.”

Applications close on Friday 20 May 2016 at 4pm.
