Eurobodalla Council will start a major construction project next month to replace stormwater pipes under Beach Road, near the Soldiers Club in Batemans Bay.
For the first two weeks of the month-long project, construction will also take place during the night to move the work along as quickly as possible and minimise inconvenience to the community.
The existing stormwater pipes, or culverts, date from the seventies and are deteriorating because of ‘concrete cancer’ and need to be replaced.
Work gets underway on Monday 2 May and weather permitting, will be complete by Friday 27 May.
During the day, one lane of traffic on Beach Road will be closed between the Soldiers Club at Flora Crescent and Pacific Street on weekdays from 5am and 7pm.
At night, the road will be fully closed from 7pm to 5am until Friday 15 May. During the night closure, detours will be in place via Orient Street, Old Princes Highway, South Street and Bavarde Avenue.
Both lanes of Beach Road will be open on Friday and Saturday nights for the duration of the project.
Residents and business owners in the construction area will have access to their properties, and have received a letter from Council explaining the works and the road closures.
Motorists are asked to take extra care around the work and to follow traffic control and speed limit signs.
