Member for Bega Andrew Constance has today announced that Eurobodalla Shire Council will receive a funding boost of $55,000 for upgrades at Narooma Library.
Mr Constance said that the Narooma library upgrades will include movable shelving, hanging facilities, furniture, provide improved spaces for community groups, children and local art societies.
“The NSW Liberals & Nationals Government understands the importance of public libraries in regional communities to lifelong learning,” Mr Constance said.
“The NSW Government recognises libraries need to adapt and designed this program to assist local government to develop and improve buildings and information technology.
“This extension of services will be enjoyed by our growing community and benefit people of all ages.
“I’m proud our community has been successful in further state government funding to ensure our libraries are an accessible and engaging resource.”
Mayor Lindsay Brown thanked Mr Constance for recognising the importance of libraries to the social wellbeing of regional communities.
“As well as the upgrades being funded by the NSW Government grant, Council plans to repaint and carpet Narooma library this year, providing a coordinated suite of improvements for the Narooma community,” Clr Brown said.
NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for the Arts Troy Grant said the funding program is an opportunity for local government to improve library services that benefit communities.
“The NSW Government has a strong track record of delivering for public libraries and has invested more than $27.5 million in 2015/16 to meet the growing and varied needs of our communities,” Mr Grant said.
The Public Library Infrastructure Grant program will allocate $15 million over four years to enhance library services and facilities and is administered by the State Library on behalf of the NSW Government.
