Clean Up Australia Day will be held on Sunday March 6 and with 45 sites already registered across Eurobodalla, the event is gearing up to be bigger than ever.
Eurobodalla’s Clean Up project officer Maree Cadman says local volunteers have registered a higher number of sites than usual this year.
“Some of these are new groups that have never participated before, and it’s great to have some families and couples registered this year. I’d love to see more volunteers joining these groups at a site near them,” she said.
Ms Cadman reports that last year over 230 enthusiastic volunteers and 2,800 local students collected 65 cubic metres of rubbish from Eurobodalla’s beaches, waterways, cyclepaths and walking tracks.
“Sites already registered this year include The Wall at Moruya Heads, Tuross beaches and surrounds, Bill Smyth Reserve Narooma and the Water Gardens in Batemans Bay,” she said.
“We are looking for volunteers who can help for an hour or two at the registered sites to support the site coordinators.
“If you would like to get involved in Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday March 6, now is the time to register as a volunteer,” Ms Cadman said.
You can find all of the current clean up sites and sign up as a volunteer by visiting the Clean Up Australia Day website at www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au or phone Council’s waste services team on 02 4474 1343.
In a first this year, Region X Kayaks are running a guided kayak trip at Cullendulla as a clean up activity. They are also offering free use of kayaks out of their boatshed at Mossy Point for keen paddlers who might want to head up the Tomaga River to collect rubbish. For further details on either of these clean ups, please contact Region X on 0400 184 034.
