Council is resurfacing Hanging Rock sportsfield to improve the playing surface and drainage.

The field was sprayed with herbicide a few weeks ago and the surface is now being broken up and mulched back into the field. This rotary hoeing process will take five to six working days.

After that, the field will be levelled using laser technology to create a flat playing surface. However, it will have a slight fall to stop water lying on the surface and reduce the need to close the field during heavy rain.

Large rolls of turf up to 20 metres long, known as maxi-rolls, will then be laid using a machine.

The work should be complete within the next two weeks and the field will re-open in time for the Hawk Cup on Sunday 3 April.

Council has worked with local sporting clubs, particularly the rugby and cricket clubs, throughout the planning of the project.

The work is costing $165,000 and is partly funded by the special rate variation.
