Council Works – Week ending 12 July 2019

 “For the week ending 12 July, the following key works were completed by Council staff”, noted Council’s Mayor, Cr. Ray Thompson.

“Within the urban Lithgow area last week, Council staff have worked towards the completion of a number of concrete asset repairs,” said Mayor Thompson. “After repairs to a sewer service, concrete repairs were completed in Hill Street and footpath repairs were also completed at Stewart Street, Andrew Street and Chifley Road. Outside of this work though, staff have commenced maintenance grading in the Hartley area, starting with Hartley Vale Road,” said Mayor Thompson. “Lawsons Long Alley, Fields Road and Hassans Walls Road will also receive maintenance in the coming weeks.”

“In the last week Council’s rural works staff have continued their focus on the maintenance of sealed roads,” noted Mayor Thompson. “This week, staff have completed bitumen repairs on McKanes Falls Road, Mutton Falls Road, Tarana Road, Tarana Sodwalls Road, Cook Street (Portland), Mudgee Street (South Bowenfels), Coxs River Road and Ganbenang Road. Additional to this work, Council is in the process of trimming all street trees in Lithgow and completing building improvements at Gumnut House and the Lithgow Library to ensure both of these services remain accessible and of high quality for the benefit of the local community.”

“Over the last month or two, Council has been seeking to improve the level of service provided to the community in a number of areas”, said Mayor Thompson. “With limited resources available, it’s understood that Council must do its best to make best use of funding when it is available.”

“Council is currently in the process of recruiting for a number of key operational positions to get more work done on community assets. Council has recently appointed an operator to a bitumen sealing truck to reduce its reliance on coldmix asphalt for pothole patching. This machine has been on the road every day since the operator’s appointment, as can be seen above,” said Mayor Thompson. “Additionally, Council is in the process of appointing a Precinct Officer which is a redesigned role aimed at providing regular cleaning services to the main streets of Lithgow, Wallerawang and Portland. New, purpose-designed and built equipment has been procured for this role.”

“Lastly, Council is also in the process of recruiting for a Development and Traffic Engineer to provide higher levels of consideration to traffic and development related issues throughout the Lithgow area as a whole. With these additional resources, Council will be able to better target and improve those areas of service that are understood to be of great importance to our community,” said Mayor Thompson.
