The Barossa Council has welcomed the recent announcement that Stage 1 of the Men’s 2020 Santos Tour Down Under will take place exclusively within the Barossa region – a rare occurrence for the event which is now entering its 22nd year.
Santos Tour Down Under Race Director, Mr Mike Turtur said "This is only the second time in TDU history that a stage has been exclusively located in a region, outside of the Down Under Classic. A 30 km circuit around the Barossa region with the start and finish positioned in Tanunda will be a fan favourite as will the King of the Mountain on Breakneck Hill - a first for the TDU".
Mayor Bim Lange is excited to be continuing the association with Santos Tour Down Under, saying "We are thrilled that the Men’s Stage 1 will take place entirely in the Barossa region. The Tour is a fantastic event for both locals and tourists."
The 2019 event generated around $70.7 million in economic benefit for the state, drawing hundreds of thousands of spectators across the 10 day event, including over 48,3 00 from interstate and overseas.
Mayor Lange says the region will be ready to welcome the influx of visitors "With the refurbished Visitor Information Centre due to launch later this year in Tanunda, the town is the ideal event hub for spectators to further explore our great region".
With five loops of every part of the 30km circuit which passes through five townships, spectators will have the opportunity to see the peloton pass by multiple times throughout the day from their chosen vantage point.
The Santos Tour Down Under will be staged 16-26 January 2020. For more information visit www.tourdownunder.com.au #TDU
