Council Works – Week ending 19 July 2019

“For the week ending 19 July, the following key works were completed by Council staff”, noted Council’s Mayor, Cr. Ray Thompson.

“Within the urban Lithgow area last week, Council staff have worked towards the completion of a number of road asset repairs,” said Mayor Thompson. “Maintenance grading in the Hartley area is nearing completion with Hartley Vale Road, Hunters Lane, Lawsons Long Alley and Fields Road complete and Hassans Walls Road to commence this week,” said Mayor Thompson. “Hotmix asphalting has also occurred in Hill Street, Wrights Road, Lemnos Street, Inch Street and Methven Street.”

“In the last week Council’s rural works staff have continued their focus on the maintenance of sealed roads,” noted Mayor Thompson. “This week, staff have completed bitumen repairs around Meadow Flat School and also on Barton Avenue (Wallerawang), Rydal Hampton Road, Range Road (Portland), Wallerawang Rydal Road (Wallerawang), Corderoy Road (Wallerawang), Pikes Lane and Cary Avenue (Wallerawang). Additionally, and in response to the recent heavy wind throughout the area, staff have been removing many fallen trees and branches from roads. Significant locations include Back Cullen Road (Portland), Portland Cullen Bullen Road, Curly Dick Road and throughout Tarana, Hampton, Mt. Lambie and Dark Corner. I commend staff for their efforts working long hours, throughout the night and the weekend.”

“In the coming weeks, asphalt contractors are scheduled to arrive in Lithgow”, said Mayor Thompson. “While here, contractors will be completing the reseal of Enfield Avenue from Main Street to Methven Street, Lithgow representing approximately 9,000m2 of urban road resealing. Also, John Street, Lithgow is scheduled for reseal for its entire length. All water mains have been replaced prior to this work commencing.”

“Lastly, in order to make the best use of the limited budget as well as the contractors and their specialist equipment while they’re in the area, a small section at the end of Mort Chifley Lane and Bourke Street will be resealed,” said Mayor Thompson. “These are significant projects which will ensure the complete reconstruction of over 11,000m2 of poor condition assets in Lithgow. In the coming months, additional roads will also be repaired as part of the 2019/20 road renewal program. This program will see roads in many urban and rural localities reconstructed by Council staff in a program totaling almost $4 million, covering a road length of almost 30 kilometres.”
