The first FOGO bin collection will be from the week beginning August 12.
After this date, your general waste bin will be collected fortnightly instead of weekly, on your normal collection day. Your recycling bin will continue to be collected fortnightly, on the alternate week to your general waste bin.
This means that there will only be two bins put out for collection each week.
The collection schedule is as follows:
Week beginning 05 August 2019: General Waste Bin and Recycling Bin
Week beginning 12 August 2019: Organics (FOGO) Bin and General Waste Bin
Week beginning 19 August 2019: Organics (FOGO) Bin and Recycling Bin
Week beginning 26 August 2019: Organics Bin (FOGO) and General Waste Bin
Help out a neighbour
Has your neighbour’s FOGO bin been on their verge for a couple of days? In the spirit of being a helpful neighbour, please bring in their bin from the verge so that it doesn’t get damaged.
Why are you receiving a FOGO bin?
The Harvey Shire Council has determined the most appropriate model to meet the State’s Waste Strategy with the introduction of the Food Organics Garden Organics bin.
The FOGO system was the WA Waste Authority’s preferred kerbside collection system and is considered most suitable for achieving the State Government’s target of 50 per cent diversion from landfill by 2020 in regional areas.
The aim of the FOGO bin is to divert up to 75 per cent of waste from landfill.
What if you compost at home?
Great! We encourage you to keep composting, but you can use your FOGO bin for items that can’t go in your home compost like:
Bones; Meat; Seafood; Shredded paper; and Cardboard. What goes in each bin?
