Urunga Library will shortly be getting a makeover, thanks to grant funding of $153,260 allocated from the NSW Public Library Infrastructure grant program.
Planned works include relocating and reducing the height of the service desk to improve accessibility, new carpet and furniture, mobile shelving, promotional signage and additional technology.
A sixth computer terminal will be added to the five already available to the community, as well as a new dedicated terminal for library users to access the online library catalogue. Library users will also benefit the additional electronic device charging points and casual reading/study spaces created by the new layout.
The children’s area will receive special attention with new modular seating, child-friendly book tubs and brightly coloured furniture.
The library will be closed from Tuesday 23 July for two weeks to allow the work to take place. During this period a pop-up library will be operating at the Urunga Neighbourhood Centre between 10am and 1pm on Wednesday 24 July and Wednesday 31 July. Urunga Library customers can visit the pop-up library to collect their reserved items and to return items that fall due in that period. Patrons who are able to travel to Bellingen are invited to use the Bellingen Library branch during the closure.
To avoid late return fees the due dates for items borrowed from Urunga Library will be adjusted to allow for extended borrowing. Library staff encourage library users to stock up on their favourite books, DVD’s and magazines prior to the closure!
It is planned the new-look library will re-open on Tuesday 6 August at 10am.
