Liverpool City Council’s new staff volunteer program will provide significant value to community organisations based in the Liverpool local government area.

That’s the message from Liverpool City Council CEO Kiersten Fishburn, who launched Generosity Day on 1 July, allowing staff to do a one-day volunteer placement at Liverpool-based community organisations each year.

“One third of Council staff live in the Liverpool LGA and they, along with the rest of our organisation, are committed to Liverpool and our growing community,” Ms Fishburn said.

“Generosity Day will provide immense value to Liverpool-based community organisations who are short on hands, with around 900 Council staff able to volunteer one day per year, representing thousands of hours of volunteer support.”

Donna Pomare, Coordinator at Liverpool Community Kitchen & Hub, said not-for-profit organisations would be grateful for the extra support.

“Liverpool City Council’s Generosity Day program will be widely appreciated by not-for-profit organisations like the Liverpool Community Kitchen & Hub, as it will provide a huge boost in on-the-ground support,” Ms Pomare said.

“Many charitable organisations are regularly in need of extra help and I can’t thank Liverpool City Council enough for their generosity, compassion and commitment to community.”

Council has partnered with Liverpool Volunteer Resource Centre to assist in matching staff to one of more than 120 not-for-profit organisations who operate in the Liverpool LGA.

“I’m incredibly proud of the interest Council staff have shown in our Generosity Day volunteer program and their willingness to go above and beyond the great work they’re already doing at Council for our community,” Ms Fishburn said.

“Staff could volunteer in an office or charity shop, get hands-on with outdoor work or use their particular skills to help a not-for-profit organisation that may require specialist support.

“Volunteering not only gives our staff a chance to develop new skills and experiences, but also meet some of our city’s everyday heroes, while ultimately helping to strengthen our community.

“I know many members of our community are regular volunteers in some capacity and I encourage others to get involved where they can.”
