Ali Raza is counting on his neighbours to back his vision for Edmondson Park so together they can win $200,000 worth of playground equipment for their suburb.

Ali has applied for a $200,000 grant through the NSW Government’s My Community Project scheme. Residents in each NSW electorate can go online and vote to decide which project will receive funding through My Community Project.

Liverpool City Council is sponsoring Ali’s project, which he has called ‘Bunji – a place for our kids to make new friends’.

If Ali wins, the $200,000 will be used to install playground equipment at a new playground that Council will build at 95 Croatia Avenue next year.

Ali moved into Edmondson Park 1½ years ago and first became involved with Council through National Tree Day last year. He quickly identified My Community Project as an ideal opportunity to do something for his suburb.

“I know what we really need in the area,” he said. “When I speak to people around the neighbourhood they’re always complaining about the local park being too busy. I thought, OK, let’s do something about this.”

Ali’s vision for Bunji includes bigger slides, a flying fox and outdoor ping pong tables – “I wanted something for the parents as well, so we can have fun with our kids”.

Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller urged Edmondson Park residents to vote for Ali’s project.

“It’s so inspiring to see passionate residents like Ali getting involved and making life better for their communities,” Mayor Waller said.

“Playgrounds are so essential for healthy communities, both for physical exercise and as places where people can come together.

“Council is committed to building two new parks in Edmondson Park next year and Ali’s project will help deliver a special experience for the community.”

Residents in the Macquarie Fields electorate, which includes Edmondson Park, can vote for Ali’s project now at mycommunityproject.service.nsw.gov.au. Voting closes on 15 August 2019.
