No training ban in Bayside
Bayside City Council 18 Jul 2019

Due to recent heavy rains and hail sportsgrounds across Bayside are showing signs of wear and tear, retaining water in some places. Grounds where matches were played in the rain and hail are particularly impacted.

Council has written to all sports clubs in Bayside encouraging clubs to prioritise competition matches over club based training. This will allow the grounds time to recover and help to preserve the playing surface in a reasonable condition for the remainder of the winter season including finals.

Council has not banned training, rather recommended that clubs find alternate training methods this week and after any future significant rain event.

With the growth in player numbers at many Bayside sportsclubs and increased female participation in particular, the demand on sportsgrounds is steadily increasing.

Bayside has an aggressive strategy of sporting infrastructure upgrades to accommodate increased demand. This includes sportsground upgrades using hybrid playing surfaces that can stand up to servere weather and increased use.

We will also keep working with sporting associations and clubs on solutions for managing the problem while we continue to upgrade our infrastructure.
