Council is currently inviting Expressions of Interest to expand on the number of community and industry representatives on the Committee.
The Maroondah Arts Advisory Committee plays an active and strategic role in setting priorities for arts and culture in Maroondah.
The MAAC is made up of local community and creative industry representatives who live, work or have expertise relevant to the arts in Maroondah.
Committee chair, Councillor Mike Symon, said members would play an important role in providing strategic advice to Council and to promote sustainability, awareness and appreciation of the value of arts and culture in Maroondah.
“In recent years, we have seen a marked increase in both interest, participation and diversity within our arts scene and across key community and cultural precincts,” Cr Symon said.
“We are looking for a wide range of experienced and connected committee members who can demonstrate an understanding of key issues and opportunities for arts and cultural development in Maroondah, as well as for the broader outer-eastern region,” he said.
The committee will also promote integration across other committees and advisory groups, including the Maroondah Disability Advisory Committee and Maroondah Community Safety Committee.
“The committee will provide a structure to engage the local community in the priority areas of arts and cultural development and advise Council on matters regarding policy, strategic planning, integration, and implementation of city-wide initiatives, as well as the commissioning and acquisition of new art works,” Cr Symon said.
“We are seeking representatives whose vision and expertise can lead and inform Council to ensure the region continues to grow in reputation, profile, while supporting innovation and a vibrant art and cultural landscape,” he said.
Deputy Mayor Kylie Spears and Councillor Marijke Graham also serve on the committee with Councillor Mike Symon.
Positions are available for individuals from the community who have knowledge and experience in the arts and cultural sector of Maroondah.
Community representatives will be appointed for the term of the current Council (until October 2020).
