New Fire Trucks for our Bushfire Brigades
City of Armadale 25 Jul 2019

Bushfire Brigades within the City of Armadale will be able to respond to emergency situations faster and with greater confidence following the recent acquisition of two new firefighting appliances.

Worth a combined value of over $1 million the 3.4 Urban Fire Trucks are the latest in firefighting resources being introduced across the State and have the latest technology to assist the volunteers in their response to incidents.

Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the new vehicles were provided to the City through funding from the Emergency Services Levy which provides financial assistance towards firefighting  appliances, equipment, training  and building maintenance.

“I’m sure a lot of ratepayers wonder where the levy goes – so it’s great to see it benefit our community and we are very grateful to receive the financial support for our local bushfire brigades.

“The volunteers give freely of their time and often battle fires under extreme and hazardous conditions to help protect lives and homes.

“These new vehicles, that replaced the current aging heavy vehicles, will go a long way to help with the capacity to deal with bushfires in the more remote and difficult terrain that presents a challenge in parts of our hills suburbs”, he said.

The Roleystone and Bedfordale Volunteer Bushfire Brigades each received a 3.4 (3 thousand litre 4 wheel-drive) Urban Fire Truck. The brigades have a total of 156 active members, seven auxiliary members and 35 cadets. The brigades responded to 64 incidents last fire season and the new vehicles will assist the volunteers to tackle future incidents with confidence.

The brigades always welcome new members for firefighting and support roles, with training provided. Contact the City’s Chief Bushfire Control Officer on 9394 5204 for further information.
