Accolades for Armadale's Exceptional Community Facilities

Armadale Fitness and Aquatic Centre (AFAC) and the Armadale District Hall were recognised across WA for their exceptional construction at the 2019 Master Builders-Bankwest Excellence in Construction Awards. The esteemed awards program showcases and awards buildings that reflect exceptional craftsmanship, commitment to building excellence and uphold the highest professional standard. AFAC and Armadale District Hall both received awards over a record number of over 100 entries across the entire state from Harvey in the south to Karratha in the north.

The esteemed awards event, which was held on Saturday, 20 July 2019, attracted a diverse range of entries including office buildings, educational facilities and community facilities. PS Structures was the recipient of the Best Public Use Building ($20 million to $50 million) Award for their work on AFAC. Construction of AFAC commenced in December 2017 and was complete in February 2019. McCorkell Constructions also walked away with the prestigious Best Historical Restoration or Renovation ($1.5 million to $5 million) Award for the construction of Armadale District Hall. McCorkell Constructions commenced the redevelopment of Armadale District Hall in April 2018 and was completed in February 2019.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said that the awards attested to the City’s commitment to provide the local community with contemporary community facilities, which cater to the community’s social and recreational needs. “The Armadale Fitness and Aquatic Centre and Armadale District Hall are important vibrant and active social hubs for our growing community.”

AFAC has impressively blended traditional aspects of an aquatic and recreation centre with a modern indoor facility boasting heated indoor and outdoor pools, spa, sauna, steam room, water playground, crèche, café, gym and group fitness rooms. City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said that the state-of-the-art facility is a holistic health and wellbeing destination, which provides residents and visitors with a range of health and wellbeing opportunities. “AFAC is an inclusive community facility where every member of our community can experience an easily accessible healthy lifestyle.”

Located in the heart of the Armadale City Centre, the historic Armadale District Hall has been transformed into a modern, inviting and open community facility. This award winning community facility provides unique spaces for large and intimate, events, performances and social gatherings. “The iconic Armadale District Hall has a remarkable community heritage dating back to 1936. The City of Armadale is proud to be able to breathe new life into an old community favourite, tastefully preserving heritage and providing contemporary facilities for current and future generations to enjoy.”
