The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale is holding an Equine Community Forum on Tuesday, 23 July.
Shire President Michelle Rich said the community forum was aimed at informing residents of the pre-existing responsibilities and requirements for the keeping of horses within the Shire.
“The Shire recognises and supports the important contribution that the equine industry makes to the local economy, and that the equine industry is a large part of the Shire’s identity,” Cr Rich said.
“The purpose of the meeting is to engage with our equine community and ensure that they receive the correct information about their responsibilities and requirements as horse owners within our Shire.”
The community forum will cover information relating to the following areas:
The different zones across the Shire where the keeping of horses may be permitted; The pre-existing planning, building and environmental health requirements relating to the keeping of horses in the Shire; and How the Shire can assist residents in navigating the various approval processes for the keeping of horses.Cr Rich said the community forum was also an opportunity for residents to ask questions and help identify ways the Shire and local equine community can work together in a positive and collaborative manner.
“The Shire is committed to ensuring that the equine industry continues to thrive and the Equine Community Forum will focus on drawing on our local expertise to support the growth and success of the industry,” Cr Rich said.
